International Antarctic Centre
The International Antarctic Centre is an award winning MUST DO experience in Christchurch. Located on a real, working Antarctic Campus across from Christchurch Airport, its location is uniquely authentic and offers visitors of all ages an interactive, fun Antarctic adventure and learning experience.
Experience the dramatic seasonal lighting in the four seasons of Antarctica show where it snows every 6 minutes. Play in real snow and ice, survive an Antarctic storm, learn about life in modern day Antarctica, and hang out with cute Little Blue Penguins!
Jump on board and buckle up for the - famously exciting Hagglund ride, take an awesome simulated 4D Antarctic cruise in the 4D Extreme theatre (3D Antarctic movie with surprise 4D special effects), watch a stunning HD movie on a MASSIVE screen, plus heaps more!
It’s the closest you’ll probably get to Antarctica without mounting your own expedition — but its warmer! This air-conditioned attraction is the perfect activity any day of the year — cool in summer and warm and dry in the winter. Don’t let the name trick you — there’s no need to get all rugged up! You can come dressed as you choose, and warm jackets are provided for the snow & ice experience.
The attraction also offers a fully licensed café open daily from 8am–5pm and a gift shop.
There are two entry ticketing options, General Admission and Xpress Admission. The General Admission pass is our most popular and fully inclusive entry pass — allow at least 2–3 hours to fully enjoy your Antarctic experience. The Xpress Admission Pass is recommended for those with time restrictions or that cannot ride the Hagglund or do the 4D experience.
